Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Then said I, Here am I; send me.

                                                                                                                                                                 ISAIAH 6:8

Born in May of 1969 in the town of
Flint, Michigan as the first of three children. Born premature, I had several surgeries before I was old enough to walk, weighing only 3lbs 4oz and later dropping to only 2lbs 11oz.  It is a miracle I am alive and that seems to have been a common theme in my life.  For some reason God has seen fit to keep me walking this earth all these years in spite of all the failures, hurdles, and successes.

My father, a former U.S.Marine, Heavy Equipment Operator by trade and the Mississippi-born son of a sharecropper never let me lose sight of the values of hard work and family.  My mother was the hard working daughter of Immigrant farmers from Kassel, Germany.  She managed a household full of activity including not only her children, but a constant flow of friends.  My parents household was home to so many of my friends along the way who adopted my parents as their own.

Since my earliest days, I never remained idle, busying myself with a myriad of activities from deep involvement in church, Boy Scout outings, school events, backyard football and building model airplanes.   After graduating from Kearsley High School in 1987, I enlisted in the U.S. Army.  After completing training at Ft. Knox and Ft. Rucker, I was posted to the 283rd Medical Detachment at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.  I took on the dual role of both Search And Rescue (SAR) Helicopter Crew Chief and Emergency Medical Technician.   It was in this arctic wilderness that the full measure of my training and upbringing came into play as I maintained the detachment's medical evacuation helicopters and compassionately treated the injuries of those whose lives and health depended on our tight-knit four man flight crews.

In 1992, I completed my military contract and returned to civilian life. Using my aviation maintenance experience I tested for and received my Airframe and Powerplant License from the FAA, allowing me to take a job offer in Texas to work on historical aircraft. The boy who had enjoyed building model kits of history’s most important aviation masterpieces was now tasked with rebuilding and maintaining the very same, very real aircraft.

Sadly in 2006, after twelve years of marriage, circumstances changed and I found myself in the midst of a divorce. It was during that difficult time that I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and little time was available to ponder treatment options. Devastated but proactive, the very next month, with concern for the possible spread of the disease, I found myself in surgery.

Now, over three years later, I am a survivor. Fully aware of what might come, I continue to be an active, fit, medically conscious proponent of early detection. Spurred on by my new found appreciation for the blessings I have enjoyed, I have a passion to be involved in helping those who are at risk or are already afflicted with this terrible disease.

“When I found out, I was lost. I didn’t know where to look for the answers and nobody else seemed to know either. If I can somehow minimize that fear of others through my experience I have an obligation and a need to do so.”

I hope to help others through being very open about my experiences both successes and failures, so others may avoid the many pitfalls this life may throw into their paths.
